3.5 mln PlayStation 2 Adaptors to Be Recalled by Sony
September 16, 2005
Sony announced on September 13 that it will recall 3.5 million power adaptors for its PlayStation 2 game console, as these may overheat and cause injury. According to the US CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), there were 38 reported cases of the adaptor overheating in the United States. The adaptors were made between August and December 2004 for the slimline version of the PlayStation 2, in which the adaptor stands free to save space in the game console itself. In Europe 2.3 million of these devices were sold, while the remainder went to Asia and North America. Sony did not say how much the recall would cost the company.
